New digs more space for CNN New York ops

CNN has officially moved to the Time Warner center.
To sum it up these are what the new digs give them:
Completely digital built from the ground up with broacasting in mind studios
5 floors and 200,000 sq ft of space
6,000 miles of cable giving them double the capacity for incoming video.
Server-based video editing either throughout the offices or from Atlanta
High-definition ready (but not broadcasting yet in Hi-Def)
Has 4 backup generators in case of power failiure
Electric bill annually equals to that of 3,700 family homes

The new studios fill feature a behind the scenes tour much like the one in Atlanta except this one will be focusing more on what it’s like to be a journalist and CNN’s newsgathering.

American morning will continue to be aired from 6th Avenue in New York City and the headquarters are staying in Atlanta

New News Director for WTVJ

WTVJ has just installed a new news director by the name of Yvette Miley.
Said to be what the station needs to have itself revived from the slumps.

CNN with new digs

CNN has started to move its New York studios to the new Time Warner building.
I think NewsNight is the first to broadcast from there, but I may be wrong. Larry King is supposed to be broadcasting from there too, though there will be no set changes for him.
The headquarters will still be in Atlanta, just the NYC operations are moving to a new building.

The new TechTV

Comcast has confirmed the merger of TechTV and G4 is completed.
The new “G4TechTv” channel officially debuts May 28th.

WSVN is a talent pool

Sure looks that way with the latest hire-aways to other stations.
Can’t help but think there must be more to it than just people leaving because they are. But then again Miami and Boston’s 7 aren’t known for being too eager to keep their talent around.

Meanwhile Brian Andrews will start November 1st with Beatriz Canals following December 1st

Another loss for 7

This time it’s 7 Design Director Troy Chrisman.
He’s won several Reginal Emmys for his Sports Xtra open, Deco Drive open, Calle Ocho open, 10pm promo spot and others.

Captain Julie, Chopper 5?

I am way behind apparently.
WPTV has a chopper, Chopper 5. Manned by, or whatever, a woman Capt. Julie who’s from London with a sexy british accent and all (Why did she give up London for West Palm?!). And since I don’t watch local news I have no idea how long she’s been here. Do you?

Frank Forte Fired

WPLG has decided to excersise their out option on Frank Forte’s contract and end it on Aug 23rd. Forte was informed of 10’s decision with a reason given that the station is going to 2 sportscasters and that the News Director doesn’t feel compfortable with his style of anchoring.
