New 7Weather graphics

Thanks to alert reader who emailed me. The graphics have debuted at noon today, I have the DVR on to catch them at 5pm so expect screen caps and video today.

Update:The graphics are nothing flashy, slightly newer font with pale almost grey-ish blue. The maps have better colored graphics, and the wall is touch-sensitive or at least it looks that way. Tom Johnston can draw on it and make H and L pressures appear, 3 day outlook has the temeratures showing initially with Tom touching each day and a graphic of the weather apearing. Will be posting screencaps and video asap the recording is over.

Update: There’s a new 7 day forecast added too “7 on 7″, how clever :)

7News 5pm forecast – Video – 11MB XviD codec needed

The new gfx are blue, and this probably means 7 is going back to bloooo … Although i didn’t tottaly hate the all red/chrome scheme, I tend to favor blue a lot more. Hopefully the future graphic changes won’t dissapoint

Update 1/15:The new system that 7 uses is called “Weather Central”, now I know why it looks so familiar I’ve seen a sample of it a while back but couldn’t remember what the name of it was. Thanks to anon emailer who emailed me :)

UPN33 going national, maybe

UPN33s cast of characters might all end up being seen by a lot more than just people in South Florida. Rumor has it UPN33’s owner Viacom are planning a nationally sindicated morning show originating from Miami using the UPN33 morning anchors. Apparently they’ll attempt to take a stab at the competition such as Good Day Live which is produced and aired from KTTV-FOX11 in LA. And I happen to think it’s a very dumb show, but who’s asking me right?

MSNBC embed goes to WTVJ

An insider just emailed with this scoop. The new hire is Tom Llamas and he was most recently an MSNBC campaign embed with the Al Sharpton presidential campaign. WTVJ’s GM Ardy Diercks has been after him for months and when his contract with MSNBC expired she finally got him. Llamas also is a Miami native who studied drama.

More details as I have them. Thanks to the insider for emailing me :)

update 1/12: he starts Monday

Where did the news go?

6am and only NBC6 has news on. 7News apparently has dropped the half hour newscasts and replaced them with infomercials. I see the TV guide showing the new schedule is from 8am untill 10am. 7 has also started re-airing their 10pm newscast at 12:30am

Fast update

7News is about to debut new weather graphics package and gagets in about a week or two. HDTV previews when it happens.

Brian Andrews has contracted malaria while in Thailand and was recovering in Sri Lanka. When I was told about it on Jan 6th Andrews was said to be very sick, but he has received shots since then and doing better

As always thanks to the insiders who emailed me :)

Cable nets show male dominated world view

PBS’s “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer” has commisionned a analysis on all 3 cable networks and their prime time content. It found CNN was a newsgathering network, FoxNews was an opinion network with most interviews in a “confrontational format”. The analysis also found that fewer than 25% of all interviewees were female

Brian Andrews sent to tsunami ground zero

I told you. He’s going to do what Mike Kirsch did, travel all the hotspots in the world. He’s been sent to the area that got hit by the tsunami. I saw his report this morning.

Update: A source at channel 4 tells FLTV that the decision to send Brian was really made on New Year’s Eve, when word came from Washington that Sec. of State Colin Powell asked Governor Jeb Bush to join him in his visit to the Tsunami-ravaged region. Because of the local angle the story took, Brian and his photographer Rudy Marshall (who went with former WFOR global reporter Mike Kirsch to Iraq and Afghanistan) were mobilized immediately because they wanted to arrive with the entourage. Now they are doing liveshots for WFOR and other CBS affiliates around the country.

So it’s safe to say look for Brian to go many more places around the world, including at any of the cable newschannels or the big 3 not too long from now.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone, make this year better than the last.

Im here and site is alive, in case you’re wondering. Just haven’t posted much as there isn’t much to post. I’ve been playing with HDTV, and probably some video and images would show up on the site. Don’t know yet. There’s loads of video to add, just haven’t found the time, or rather the energy to convert it all. Still waiting on 7News to re-do the plex which would hopefully start soon
