Insider says Mike Kirsch is coming back to WFOR and starts work in June. No info yet on why he came back
Few years too late CNN wakes up and realises they should drop their registration to watch video on CNN.com, and instead give it away for free with ads.
Duh.
This was CNN’s worst move. Making people pay $4.95 to watch news online. Not only that but using the crappies media player that anyone has devised in the face of planet – Real Player. Horrible.
Hopefully now they’ll do away with it completely and either adopt Windows Media Player which would be the lesser of two evils compared with Real Player, or they will go MPEG-4 H.264/AVC using Quicktime as this codec is just simply too amasing and great.

The AFTRA union at Philly CBS affiliate KYW voted overwhelmingly to support a strike in which the station may left without employees to run their operations. Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that WFOR is getting ready to send reporters, anchors and writers in case the strike threatens to bring the station’s operations to a halt. If it comes down to getting on the picket line, KYW on-air personalities have promised to join it as well.
AFTRA, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, which represents TV station employees authorized the strike because of pay issues. The union alleges that KYW’s writers and producers are getting paid less than their colleagues working for NBC affiliate WCAU. According to the paper they also get insignificant raises
Should be interesting to see which people from WFOR go up there and for how long.

Looks like WPLG’s Kamal exclusive brought the ratings in. They had twice the ratings share they usually have. Not only that but it appears that WPLG actually had people tunning them on purpose as opposed to feeding off of the viewership from the previous program.
On monday for example WPLG had a 6 share for ABCs programming and CBS had 15 share. At 11pm WPLG went up to 13 share, WFOR fell to 12. On tuesday, WPLG was at 4 share during ABC programing, and 10 share at 11pm. WFOR had 13 and fell to 11. On wednesday from 6 to 10 for WPLG and 12 to 11 for WFOR.

I have it on good year that the plex redo is slated to begin at the end of the May sweeps. Some people have been notified recently that they’ll be displaced for about 4 weeks untill the 7 News Desk is being worked on. Then it will become the Breaking News Desk, same as the one up in WHDH in Boston. Which might I add looks pretty awesome.
That means the July sweeps will see either a redone newsdesk or whole newsplex in time for the sweeps with possibly new graphics either then or later on.
After UPN33 added the stadium lights to their promos, now WPLG has done the same. Before the tuesday morning show started they ran a weather promo with the whole team and there are the same stadium lights in the back like UPN33 and 7News.
The plasma screens look nice though.

Heretismata Elada – Congrats to Greece
The Balkans Im happy to say outvoted old Europe and crowned one of my favorite Greek singer Elena Paparizou and her song My Number One top place with over 42 points lead. All of us practically gave Greece the most 12 point awards, than any other country.
Interestingly countries like Germany, UK and France were way down on the bottom.
Eurovision is the European version of American Idol that has taken place for 50 years. Each country holds auditions and votes for one favorite to be sent to the contest which is held in the country that was number one in the previous year.
The finals see all competing countries perform live on stage after which voting opens on the whole continent for just 10 minutes. Votes are tabulated and votes are distributed from 1 to 10 points with 12 points going to the performer each country voted the most for. The performer with the most votes wins.
