Rummormill: WPEC-CBS12 may lose affiliation
Rumors are floating around that WPEC-CBS12 affiliate for the Palm Beaches may be losing it’s CBS affiliation in a year when their contract expires. With Viacom controlling WFOR-CBS4 and WBFS-UPN33 in Miami and with their recent purchase of two stations in the Treasure coast area WPEC may be left hanging dry much like WSVN in the early 90s. Unless of course Viacom buys WPEC.

So what happens then? Do they just STOP? I mean, not to sound naive, but they can’t just cease operations, can they? Just not go on the air?

I would imagine that they would either go indie (like WJXT in Jacksonville or KRON in San Francisco) or try to snag another network affiliation.
