General Manager of Tampa ABC Affiliate Arrested

William Carey GM of WFTS ABC affiliate in Tampa was arrested for hit and run that happened on Wednesday. He allegedly “slammed his Ford Explorer four times” into the back of another car without pulling over.

When the owner of the car Ok Yi chased after him, honking repeatedly, he pulled over handed her his license but when she told him she’ll call the police he reportedly started grabbing her arms to get it back. In the struggle Carey even tried to pull the woman out of her car window while she was still buckled up. When she freed herself she ran down Memorial Highway with Carey chasing after her then going back to her car and rummaging through it.

When the woman’s husband showed up Carey ran away. Police called and asked him to go to the local district and discuss what happened but Carey didn’t show up. He also didn’t open the door when cops visited his home so they impounded his car.

A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of auto burglary, battery and hit and run with property damage.

Carey turned himself in on Friday afternoon and was released from jail on $25,000 bail. He’s been placed on paid leave by the station.

The woman suffered bruises on her arms.

CBS4 News on Joost?

AdWeek reports CBS is allowing its local stations to contribute content to distribution parters CBS already has agreements with. One such distribution partner is Joost the budding IPTV service from the makers of Skype.

Btw I still have about 800 Joost invites for anyone that wants some.

South Florida Nightly News Debuts

It’s on – watch it live here

So far so good, but they’re trying way too hard to pace it fast.
This steady cam although cool it starts to feel way overdone – I mean using it 3 times before the anchor tosses to reporter! – overkill.
You’re not 7

Same thing happens during their other newscasts (we don’t really need the steady cam to fly to Tony so he can finish Jackie’s sentence before going to the report).

Is it just me or is Nespral about to run out of breath reading those stories!? Feels rushed

Content – pretty good. Definitely light on junk. The longer stories were 60-90 seconds, shorter stories – not sure what those are called, usually 3 in a row – those were about 10 seconds each.

New NBC6 Newscast Gets A Name; Debuts Next Monday

On September 10 NBC6 is officially dropping the 5pm news hour and replacing it with Ellen.

The new newscast they’re adding at 7pm will be named ‘South Florida Nightly News’ and from the promos I’ve seen running they’ll borrow the logo of ‘NBC Nightly News’ as well.

On the same day ‘South Florida Today’ will be moved to 11am to accommodate the extra hour of Today at 10am and a re-worked iVillage that NBC no doubt hopes someone would start watching will be airing at Noon.

Extra is moving to 4:30pm
