7′s Complete HD Overhaul
The powers that be at WSVN have decided the station will be investing $20,000,000 for a complete top to bottom high definition overhaul! The cameras, control room, wiring and field equipment will be high-def. The newsplex/set will get updates as well, but no complete replacement.

Saying and doing are different things. Spending the $$ won’t make it happen overnight, most local stations are already in the process. Friends at CBS say 4 is in line for the digital makeover already done in NY, Chicago and LALA land. All of 4′s new field cams are High-Def, it new internal switching system is HD, and it’s new sound board is digital. A new graphics display system already installed is high-def, and all of their high-end editing systems are already HD ready. All that back-end crap has to be working before new studio cameras go in, but if 7 is starting now, they’re already behind.

I think they should get some of that money, and give Elita a raise to keep her

I hope they follow through, as I’m _real_ tired of their absurd stretch-o-vision.
OTOH, I don’t know if I could _ever_ handle watching Belkys in HD…

Its about time. If any station needed to go HD, it’s 7 with the flashy graphics and all! I wonder if they’ll be done in time for November sweeps! And I hope the updates to the plex will be better than what they got now. I thought the last set they had was ten times as better than this current one.

Doubt it
Unless it’s not as hard as I think it is, never know. Given how long it’s taken them to just get their new graphics out the door… Plus you have the possibility of more hurricanes till October.
I think February or May sweeps of 2008 is a more realistic timeframe of when 7HD will debut

Scooter- can you ask your CBS friends why the Dolphins games aren’t in HD. Is it the Dolphins? I see all the preseason games in HD on NFL network. You’d think the games would be a first class affair for WFOR.

I like the new set they have right now, I’m not liking too much the whole thing right next to the big monitor. They currently say “The Storm Station” I don’t like that too much, but I love the desk, it’s gorgeous! But, as far as the plex goes, not too many changes need to be made.

About time, but i bet PLG’s new digs will be all HD and will be DMA 16 1st HD station, WPTV’s intentions to go HD lasted for a year?imagine how long we’ll wait for SVN to unveil HD gfx if they haven’t unveil their upcoming/regular graphics, its been more than a year and a half since i’ve been waiting for them, or did they cancel their intentions for new graphics and go full HD instead?

Up here in Boston (Home to sister WSVN station WHDH), there is only one station doing the news in HD, WCVB, NewsCenter5. They debuted it in May with a complete HD friendly set (can be seen at fxgroup.tv and there is a tour of it on thebostonchannel.com). The GM there said it took them 2 years to plan out the whole HD thing, so I wouldn’t expect HD on WSVN soon. The CBS owned station here WBZ, is also in the planning stages of going HD (They need all the help they can get with their ratings)
Anyways my point it don’t hold your breath for the WSVN-HD thing.
BTW when WHDH bought another station up here and did a 10:00 newscast they used the WSVN graphics for a while, but everyone in Boston hated them and they changed it, I don’t no how you can put up with them don’t you get dizzy? lol
