Brand new Spanish-language digital network Estrella TV has signed with WSVN to broadcast locally on 7′s digital sub-channel 7.2.  The network owned by Liberman Broadcasting is expected to launch by the third quarter of 2009 in several of the largest Hispanic markets in the US. Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market is ranked number 3.

Liberman Broadcasting  is the largest privately owned Spanish-language broadcaster in the US operating 5 independent TV stations and 12 radio stations.

Newcommer Estrella TV is going up against not only Telemundo and Univision but also smaller but more well established Telefutura (WAMI) and MegaTV.

Most markets are offering movie channels and vintage TV–in English. When will the Anglo media stop pandering to the Hispanic population here? They are better served now than the non-Spanish speaking market, which does exist. Intellectual laziness.

I haven’t counted, but I’ll bet that the number of digital Spanish outlets is higher than the number of digital English outlets in the Miami OTA market.
