As of Friday Sept 18th WFOR has a new weekend evenings anchor.

A reader alerted us they saw WFOR reporter Natalia Zea’s Facebook status said she’s the new weekend anchor of CBS4 News. We looked into and also checked out her Twitter account, she confirmed the news there as well.
Zea will be anchoring the Saturday and Sunday evening editions of WFOR CBS4 News.
I also noticed that Zea had sent out a tweet on September 12th saying she’ll be anchoring CBS4 News both days that weekend.
This is an interesting development to say the least. Natalia Zea replaces Gwen Belton who joined WFOR in September 2008 and has anchored the weekend newscasts since then.
We don’t really know the reason behind this switch but at least our tipster claims that Belton wants to be a reporter.

Belton came to WFOR after a 2-year stint as a reporter for CBS Newspath. Before that as most of you know she was one of the anchor/reporters at WPLG. She left WPLG in the fall of 2005 when the station opted not to renew her contract. She was joined WPLG in August 1998.
Natalia Zea joined WFOR in November 2006 from WOAI San Antonio.

Gwen Belton comes across as a seasoned professional. Natalie Zea is just too young to be believable.

You ever notice that the less attractive field reporters usually are investagative reporters? CBS4 is sure proof of that.

Zea is unpolished and terrible out in the field.. the only people happy about that promotion are the photographers who get 2 days off.

Nick, I agree with you on that one! Mitch, Juila is leaving WTVJ soon. Thats why I said less black people in the Miami market at the anchor desk. Maybe Gwen was looked at by NBC? I don’t know why CBS 4 doesn’t promote blacks to Anchor? Right Now I’m watching Jackie Nespral. I hope she does not do the solo thing again or “try” to compete with Laurie Jennings. South Florida news does not have the excitement/competition like it use to. WHATS GOING ON?

who would promote this witch? i am sick of the way she treats us in the field and live trucks.. she bosses us around.. and now, the genius promoted her, so she will never learn her lesson. she is talentless anyway, and not miami hot! go to any mall usa and you can replace her.. how bout some former cheerleaders with way more talent, and wont snap fingers at photogs and live truck ops like the pre madonna she THINKS she is. she wont last long… she blows….well, yea…she definitely blows…latinos stick together in miami.. thats why i moved to whiteowa iowa 8 years ago.

Why do you insist on bring race into this? If it was her choice to step down than it has nothing to do with Race! I hope that they would not give someone the job just because they are black or just cause they are white.

Natalia always seems to be gritting her teeth. Gwen has that full-bodied voice. Whatever the reason, poor choice being made. Another one, I should say.

Gwen Belton has that Ann Bishop voice. I really miss Ann Bishop and wish she was alive today. I think Ann & Dwight would still be the #1 team in Miami. I also hope Dwight gets out of retirement.

Gwen Belton replaced Ileana Varela, who was laid off after several years with the station (she was part of the Sean Keniff/Jade Alexander layoff).
My guess is they needed Gwen to “hold down the fort” on the weekends, so she did for a few months. They are obviously not going to be willing to hire new talent at this time, so in came Natalia, who they recently pulled off the morning shift when they cancelled weekend mornings… very simple.

This is for Jason get your facts straight! Natalia never anchored the weekend mornings it was Marybel Rodriguez who should be anchoring much more, but I don’t think she would want the weekend evening gig, because she is married with small children. I think Marybel is awsome!
