wpbf.logo.2494_64756024313_64713099313_2128369_4201319_nEarly in July we mentioned that WPBF bought the rights to air Dr. Phil after WPTV decided to do away with it and make way for Oprah’s latest creation, The Dr Oz Show.

The 4pm newscast on WPBF will be expanded to one hour, and the 5pm to 6pm newscast now will make way for Dr Phil in that time slot. ‘Phil’ will be followed by a half-hour newscast at 6pm.

If WPBF’s changes look familiar that’s because WPLG was one of the first stations to experiment with replacing their main early evening newscast with Dr Phil not too long ago.

In November 2004 we reported that WPLG snagged Dr Phil from WFOR. But it wasn’t until September 11th 2006 when WPLG removed their 5pm newscast and put Dr Phil in its place. As per Oprah’s rules none of syndicated shows produced by her company can run at the same time as the Oprah show.

The changes at WPBF take effect officially on  September 14th, same day as the debut of the Dr Oz Show.

Perhaps this will steal away that group of viewers that do watch Dr Phil on WPLG at 5. This no 5pm thing has done well for WPLG for awhile, but in the last 6 months, they have fallen behind WFOR and WSVN. This idea may not work in West Palm Beach. WPEC and WPTV will steamroll WPBF with this.

I know everyone will hate me saying this, but Oprah is such a B*tch. She should stop creating these stupid shows with her organization.

Dr. Phil’s shows are so boring. As far as I’m concerned, they’re unwatchable.

Here’s one for you. What’s going to happen to Inside Edition, which airs on WPBF at 4:30?

Don’t watch Dr Phil or Oprah. Gimme REAL news in the daytime.
