This blurb by Herald TV critic Glenn Garvin says that of all 55 markets which have people meters installed, Miami/Ft Lauderdale ranked 54th in Olympics viewership the weekend after they started.
Contrast that to West Palm Beach which rank at number 10 overall!
Wonder why? Does it have anything to do with the current reputations of WTVJ and WPTV?

I have to say tho, its amazing to me that the type of people who live in Palm Beach and especially Broward are VERY similar demographics of people. I think it is incredible that NBC 6 could do so bad where WPTV Newschannel 5 can do so good with the same content. That is when you know it REALLY has to be a local level failure for that to happen…

I’m aware the Summer Olympics seem to get better TV ratings, than the Winter Olympics do. I very much enjoy watching the Olympics, and watch it religiously. I also strongly believe the IOC and competing athletes are doing whatever means possible to keep the iconic sporting event relevant.
With the Vancouver Games coming to an end on Sunday… we have London coming up in 2012, followed by Soshi in 2014, and Rio de Janeiro in 2016. 2018 Winter Olympics are currently up for grabs, and the announcement is expected in mid-2011.
I would be interested in seeing New York City considering putting in a bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics, despite the failed 2012 bid, and Chicago’s failed 2016 bid. NYC trying yet again, and not giving up. Just a thought.

If NYC isn’t meant to be for now, or decides to temporarily opt out… I could picture Miami wishing to host a Summer Olympics.
St. Louis was the very first U.S. city to ever host a Summer Olympics, way back in 1904. Los Angeles hosted the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics, and holds the honor as the only U.S. city to have ever hosted the games twice. Atlanta hosted the 1996 Summer Olympics. If a U.S. city can successfully win the bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics… 24 years will have passed since U.S. has hosted a Summer Olympics. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
