WSVN refreshed their anchor, reporter, and weather and sports team staff headshots on WSVN.com. Usually, the headshots were taken at the anchor desk with the newsplex as the backdrop. Surprisingly, they moved from the desk, into the control room with the HD Plasmas as the background. This was quite the unexpected turn, as they usually have the circle 7 logo plastered everywhere. And guess what?! Derek Hayward FINALLY has a headshot on the site! He was the only one on the site without one! Welcome to the world of headshots, Derek!
Well, everyone looks nice and purdy!
A tweet yesterday on @WSVN says they are adding more weekend newscasts again.
Starting July 11th the 6:30pm time slot on Saturdays and Sundays will be filled by a newscast, replacing the infomercials currently airing at that time. The change brings WSVN’s weekend newsc schedule closer to how it is during the week, the only difference being that on weekends there are no news at 4pm and the 5:30pm is taken by Inside Edition Weekend.
I think we’ll see them add more news soon enough, a whole 30 minutes of ad time in favor of about 8 minutes of commercials
The last time WSVN tweaked their weekend news schedule was on September 26, 2009 when they added newscasts in the 11pm time slot on Saturdays and Sundays.
/hat tip to our reader who alerted us to the tweet/
Some people say there is no such thing as too much branding and WSVN’s bosses have to be part of that group because the amount of branding they do during the average newscast is just ungodly. The newsplex is kind of obvious but you don’t have to pay close attention to realise they love to drill it in your gray matter that you’re watching 7, and especially at night, ‘The Night Team’.
So, how many times do you think they said ‘Night Team’ in a WSVN 10pm newscast? Or, how many times is the WSVN logo staring back at you, often in multiples, in a newscast? The short answer is a lot! But if you want to get more precise, our friend TMBtD edited a whole hour of 7News at 10pm and made a heroic attempt to count how many times circle 7 popped on-screen.
I tried counting along but got exhausted in the first minute of the video. Check it out after the jump
Maybe that’s why WSVN is so recognizable!?
