New CBS4 Open; Credit to TMBTD; CLICK to enlarge.

WFOR is now broadcasting in High Definition and from their newly built set. They premiered it on a delayed version of their 6:30PM news.  Updates and video soon…

Update: This looks like a soft-launch of a type. According to this article on CBS4.com, they are not broadcasting weather in HD.

“More work has yet to be done. In the coming months, you will see CBS4’s weather department broadcast in high definition. Eventually, the reporting done throughout South Florida communities will be in high definition as well.”

Update: WFOR has posted a video about the switch to HD here.

After the jump, an HD video montage by TMBtD.

WFOR to Get New Set and HD in Two Weeks

WFOR

WFOR began broadcasting from a temporary set today, in order to make way for their new HD ready set. SFLTV.com told you first two weeks ago that WFOR would start to broadcast in HD come early 2010 (in preparation for the Superbowl); this would put them right on track to do so. WFOR is the only English-speaking station in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market yet to convert to High Definition broadcasting. Expect a new graphics  set as well as music to go along with their transition.

SFLTV Exclusive: WFOR to go HD in Early 2010?

WFOR

The question has been asked for months as of when WFOR will finally make the switch over to High Definition broadcasting. WFOR is currently the only English speaking station still broadcasting in SD in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market.  So, when exactly will WFOR go HD? The moment may finally be coming. According to SFLTV.com insiders in CBS management, WFOR is expected to go HD come February right before the Super Bowl.  According to our sources, a new graphics package is also expected to follow with the HD Transition. SFLTV will pass more information on as we actively receive it.

What are your thoughts on WFOR going HD? Do you think this can create a ratings boost for the station?

Video of WPLG First Newscast from New Studios

WPLG Local10 New OpenThanks to Frank for Youtubing this. An open from today’s debut of WPLG’s new studios.

They’ve kept the same music, the open is refreshed but overall the look remains the same. The time/temp bug is now animated, an animated cube. Not too bad but somewhat distracting.

Two Weeks to Sexier WPLG; Second in the US to be Completely HD

update: photos of the new digs from JustNews.com

This past weekend WPLG ran a story announcing their new digs in Pembroke Park are finished. The report showed video of their new building, newsroom, control room and set. The set looks exactly like what we posted a few days ago.

Master control has already started originating from the new digs, ironing any kinks out and driving the newscast.

Joe will be happy to know that WPLG will be 100% HD – both studio and field. Second station in the country to do this according to them. Which is not bad for bragging rights considering how slow HD was to come to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale.

If anyone has pics of the new digs and wants to share contact us we’d be happy to show them off.

/hat tip to all tipsters who notified us of the video/

WPLG Can Hear The Bells…

wplgnewsroom

The above is an artists rendering of the new WPLG studio. Remind you of anything? Feels a tad like a church if you ask me. If the final installation matches the renders, it is certainly going to be the most… colorful… set in South Florida. My problem is it seems too bright. I’m not sure how I feel about waking up at 5a.m. to that.

Sunday Sports Xtra HD Debut

What an into!

/hat tip to TMBtD/

Who needs drugs when you’ve got 7!

Who needs to get high when you can just watch 7 News (and get the same experience)! A very flashy montage by TMBtD of the new 7 HD:

Very VERY flashy… lots of “swooooshes”…. very…. 7 News like. It’s what you would expect. To me, it feels like I’m on something when I watch it. I find my self having to look away from the TV screen due to fear of seizures… But hey, that’s just me.

7News in HD Imminent

Yes, people! Finally, 7News will end stretchovision madness and launch real HD.

Here’s what I learned:

- rehearsals were happening Friday evening
- the plex will/receive(d) subtle changes, nothing major
- anchor desk has grown a bit. The 7 logo at the front was replaced
- the blue duratran between the floors is going back to
how it was before, small. Or at least smaller than it is now.
- flat screens will be added to it?
- monitor wall may or may not change. WHDH replaced theirs
with almost a dozen large flat screen tvs

Graphics
- “very ESPN-sportscenter ish”
- “LOTS of swooshes and flying 7s”
- “everything looks like its flying out of the screen”
- the new opens are much shorter
- color scheme is blue, black, red with chrome

Music
no info but I’m working on it. My guess, something original
by Chris Crane, naturally

Field photogs will be shooting in 16×9 SD which will be upconverted
to HD. NO stretchovision and as few sidebars as possible.

Don’t expect any more major changes after this. Even with holding nearly 20% of the local tv ad market WSVN is still pinched by the bad economy.
They like every other station are having budget problems and allegedly won’t be filling open positions.

Doesn’t appear like they’ll acquire the WTVJ building at this point in time. Of course you never know but at the moment it doesn’t appear likely (maybe it never was?)

Sunbeam is still in litigation with the company that wants to build condos right next the studios.

7News HD will swooshhhh in with a bang sometimes during the first or second week of December.

And now you know. Thanks to the tipster for the info.
