Now that the country has had enough of Dr Phil’s shtick and ratings have dropped, WPLG are not renewing the rights to air the talker and will be resurrecting their 5pm newscast. The station is already running promos announcing the changes.
Today WPLG launched mobile news apps for iPhone, Android and Blackberry devices. They’re the last station to offer viewers a free app, and the second after WSVN to offer an app on multiple platforms.

The Miami Heat vs Dallas Mavericks game had 10.9 million viewers but locally WPLG seems to have gotten a huge ratings boost too. Sun Sentinel TV critic Tom Jicha says locally WPLG had about 900,000 viewers! The largest audience the station has had other than for a Super Bowl broadcast.
