Results: “Poll: Which TV station is run best?”

…The results are in, and after hundreds of votes, SFLTV.com readers think that WSVN (FOX-7) is the best run TV station in South Florida.

results

Winner: WSVN (FOX-7)

By a landslide, the winner is WSVN (FOX-7), with 51.9% of the votes . Coming in a not-so-close second, is WPLG (ABC-10), with 26.7% of the votes. WFOR (CBS-4) comes in at a rather lousy 11.5%, and from reading the comments, this is partially due to the lack of High Definition. Finally, WTVJ (NBC-6) comes in dead last (yet again) at 9.9% of the votes… and the reason for that? Well, you figure it out.

Poll: Which TV station is run best?

In terms of management, which of the following TV news stations do YOU think is run the overall best? Consider all factors, including management staff, professionalism, employee relations, etc.

Alleged Thief Beverly Gallagher Running From Media

Alleged Thief Beverly Gallagher Running From the Media

This story is making my elbow itch! /hat tip reader who alerted me to the video links at the bottom of this post/

Yesterday 3 South Florida politicians accused of corruption were released from jail. One of them, Beverly Gallagher (the one dressed in red jacket above), a Broward County School Board member, ran from the media her son, and perhaps that’s also her daughter, got in the way to try and help mom escape to the car so she won’t have to answer questions. Like, did she really got paid $12,500 to steer school board business to a certain company? Continue reading ‘WTVJ, Other News Crews Shoved, Blocked And Assaulted’

After house shopping in Westport, Conn. on the 25th Charles and Keith plan to get married on September 27th on the beach, and then Charles Perez will become Charles Reinhard.

Congrats!

New WPBF Set, Other Changes, to Debut Changes on September 14th

One of our readers tells us WPBF has been airing promos lately talking about how the station is going to look entirely different very soon. Last month we mentioned that WPBF is getting a new news set after 14 years of using a 2-story newsplex styled newsroom.

Graham tells me he also noticed in the promos what presumably is the new logo for the station, looking a lot like the one WPBF had in 1989. You can check it out after the jump. Also they’re promoting themselves to be the most full featured television station in all of Florida when the changes debut on September 14th but we’ll have to wait and see what they mean by that.

In addition to the styling the station is also shifting programming on the same day, Dr. Phil will make his debut at 5pm, replacing WPBF’s newscast that used to fill that time slot.

Kelly Mitchell (former WSVN anchor and WPLG reporter) has tied the knot with long time partner Kirk Wade, WSVN’s chief photographer, according to the Miami Herald. Kelly was an anchor at WSVN from 1992 through 1998, then joined WPLG for a reporting gig. Her most recent gig was as a talk show radio host for WFTL-AM (850). Kelly and Kirk dated for 15 years.

WPBF Replaces 5pm Newscast With Dr Phil

wpbf.logo.2494_64756024313_64713099313_2128369_4201319_nEarly in July we mentioned that WPBF bought the rights to air Dr. Phil after WPTV decided to do away with it and make way for Oprah’s latest creation, The Dr Oz Show.

The 4pm newscast on WPBF will be expanded to one hour, and the 5pm to 6pm newscast now will make way for Dr Phil in that time slot. ‘Phil’ will be followed by a half-hour newscast at 6pm.

If WPBF’s changes look familiar that’s because WPLG was one of the first stations to experiment with replacing their main early evening newscast with Dr Phil not too long ago.

Andrea Brody at WPLG?

A number of Meebo tipsters have reported that former WTVJ sportscaster Andrea Brody, (who was laid off at the same time Kelly Craig and Joe Carter were) was seen on-air at WPLG doing the sports report. Some report that she’s freelancing; however, I was unable to confirm it from where I am this week. I’ll work on getting the full scoop as soon as I can.
