Just in case you live under a rock…

SFLTV.com comment of the day: “[18:40] meeboguest28622: I don’t know if SFLTV received news of NBC dumping Jay Leno’s show at 10PM, and moving him back to 11:35PM after the Winter Olympics or not. Hope that could be the breaking news that SFLTV.com is working on.”

Yes. Yes we are aware… and just in case you weren’t (and somehow live under a rock), FTVLive.com broke the story first on the Jay Leno/Conan situation.

WFOR to Get New Set and HD in Two Weeks

WFOR

WFOR began broadcasting from a temporary set today, in order to make way for their new HD ready set. SFLTV.com told you first two weeks ago that WFOR would start to broadcast in HD come early 2010 (in preparation for the Superbowl); this would put them right on track to do so. WFOR is the only English-speaking station in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market yet to convert to High Definition broadcasting. Expect a new graphics  set as well as music to go along with their transition.

Former South Florida Anchor Expecting

Former CBS4 lead anchor Maggie Rodriguez is expecting a baby! Here is her announcement on the CBS Early Show a few days ago:

Congrats to her from her former South Florida family.

New WTVJ Weather Promo

WTVJ recently rolled out their new “Be Glad You Live in South Florida” promos, featuring all of their meteorology team in “real South Florida situations” you can do with the “great weather we should be thankful for.” Take a look:

What do you think?

Tweets that may be applicable to SFLTV.com…

In our recent exclusive post about WTVJ banning SFLTV.com from their newsroom, I wrote the following:

“Our writers, content producers, and administration are, in fact by definition, journalists.”

SFLTV.com stumbled upon this Tweet by a WTVJ morning producer named Tammy Delgado. You can follow her Twitter account here.

First (and let me make this very clear), we’re not saying this Tweet is about us. It would be rather cocky of me to think that Ms. Delgado even reads our site on a daily basis. But her disapproval for us is clear. Because our comments are un-moderated, and the sole opinion of the commenter AND NOT SFLTV.com, some unpleasant things have been said. The level of disapproval from her of our site is clear. In fact, she’s even blocked us from following her on Twitter: Continue reading ‘Tweets that may be applicable to SFLTV.com…’

Kevin Corke Debuts on WTVJ

Kevin Corke

The highly anticipated Kevin Corke is set to debut tonight on WTVJ. SFLTV.com told you about him last October when WTVJ announced Corke as Julia Yarbough’s replacement. Corke (pictured to the left) has anchored the news desk for NBC’s ‘Today Show’ as well as on MSNBC. According to the Sun-Sentinel, Corke will be hosting the 7 & 11 newscasts. This leaves the question as of who will host with Nespral on the 6PM show, or if she will continue to solo-host it. WTVJ is banking on Corke for ratings. Expect promos in the coming weeks about how experienced (at the national level) Corke is, and how trusted he should be. But is this enough to draw in ratings? Will Corke be enough to pull WTVJ out of dead last place? What do you think?

FIRST ON SFLTV: SFLTV.com Banned From WTVJ

WTVJ (NBC6)

Informants at WTVJ notified us a few weeks ago that we were officially banned from being viewed by WTVJ employees. According to our source, a memo sent out station-wide allegedly banned (and threatened termination) for any employees viewing SFLTV, NewsBlues, or any other applicable “insider” news website. Although this isn’t uncommon for news stations to do, (especially to prevent viewing in the workplace) I still find it rather ironic. The bottom line is that SFLTV.com (and sites like it) is a TV station “insider” news website. Our writers, content producers, and administration are, in fact by definition, journalists. We are a news website that specializes in local TV station industry news. The fact that WTVJ is censoring their employees from viewing a news website is, in my opinion, rather ironic.

Note: I’m not just picking on WTVJ. WPLG we’re told has similar bans in place.
