So now that the sale is off, and things are looking up for WTVJ, (kind of…) apparently, Mr. DeMarco Morgan himself wants back in. Here’s the scoop. He algedly made a phone call late Tuesday night to the NBC 6 executive producer, and get this… allegedly wants back at WTVJ to host the 6, 7, and 11 PM news. Ha! Now, the contract details allow for trading of on air talent between NBC O&O stations, but i would be shocked if they let him. He bails out when the times are tuff, and then when everything is all better again, he wants back in? I don’t think so. DeMarco, as of now, is scheduled to started at WNBC a few weeks back.

WNBC just snagged another WTVJ employee. This time, it’s management. Ilyas Kirmani, who joined WTVJ in 2005 from WHDH-TV, is leaving to be the new “dayside manager” (whatever that is) at WNBC. His last day is sometime in January, and no word when he starts at WNBC. I’m not really sure why everyone seems to be leaving for WNBC. Last time i checked, they’re not doing much better than WTVJ right about now.
Someone alerted me to this article in Variety about NBC re-tooling their flagship station in New York City, WNBC.
If this works look for other stations to begin copying it en mass just like WSVN was copied in the early/mid 90s when they made fast pace and flashy graphics work.
NBC announced the changes earlier this year but now everything is beginning to take shape.
A lot of the high priced anchors and reporters will be gone soon replaced by cheaper … “content producers”. Yes, there apparently is no such thing as reporter, photojournalist etc at WNBC anymore. Most everyone who worked there and is lucky to still have a job will be shooting video, writing, editing, and reporting stories.
Basically NBC is retooling the whole station to try and help the sagging ratings and all else that ails the TV news biz. Or so they hope.
Last month they launched a new studio (video below) that looks a lot like MSNBC and NBC Nightly News sets. If you watch it you’ll notice how the on-air talent refers to it as “content center” and not news room.
Feels kind of gimmicky with these new buzz words. But I suppose WNBC can afford to take the chance seeing as how their station isn’t exactly at the peak of the ratings. Seriosly, 17,000 viewers for a 5pm newscast in a city with population bigger than some countries?
The new anchor changes take effect this week. DeMarco Morgan’s last day is Wednesday.
WTVJ anchor DeMarco Morgan was just hired at WNBC. What a small fish for such a big pool. Come December, DeMarco will work weekends anchoring the 6 & 11 P.M. news. A few weeks ago we reported that DeMarco Morgan and Tom Llamas were up in NY interviewing at WNBC. No word on if he was (or will be) hired as well. DeMarco denied that he was hired, even to fellow co-workers up to just a few days ago. This may be a smart move for both stations. With DeMarco gone, that leaves a spot open for the unused star at WTVJ - Joel Connable. According to rumors, Joel is supposed to be in a full time anchor spot by the end of this year. Now that would be a nice thing to see. Some real talent in the anchor seat. So now, it’s just a wait and see situation.
Update: According to management insiders at WTVJ, Joel Connable will be the new 7P.M. anchor, and possibly the new 6P.M. anchor.
DeMarco Morgan and Tom Llamas are heading to WNBC? Allegedly confirmed by DeMarco and Tom as well as insiders over at WNBC. They have both been interviewing up in NY and apparently, WNBC is offering them both jobs. Their positions are still unknown. Neither Tom or DeMarco have any connections with New York. Both are outsiders, but represent the minorities that WNBC says they need right now. DeMarco is on vacation for three weeks while he goes up to New York for interviews and Tom has been there as well. There are still lots of unknowns with this all, and I’ll pass any information along as soon as i get it.
Sue Simmons main anchor of the WNBC’s newscat and TV legend in New York City.
Last night she asked someone a poignant question unexpectedly.
For a little bit it looks as though the control room person wasn’t sure if she was asking him/her
I bet New Yorkers aren’t shocked, the old ladies up there talk like that all the time
Simmons offered an apology soon after the incident and it was posted online as well

Tom’s Out
WNBC announced today that Tom Llamas will be joining the station as a general assignment reporter beginning in January. SFLTV reported a few weeks back that him, and DeMarco Morgan (who was also just hired) were up in NY interviewing at WNBC. Again, we wish him all the best. He never really made a big impression on me, anyways. Good luck, Tom.
(Sorry about the giant Tom photo.. Computer is being weird today.)
