Charles Perez leaving for LA

A good informant told me Charles Perez is leaving 7News for a weekend gig in LA. Don’t know about which station yet, but he came to 7 from KCAL in LA

Not so looking out for you

Turns out the father of one soldiers accused of abusing Iraqui prisoners who gave photos to 60 Minutes 2, first went to Bill O’Reilly hoping the no-spin man would give him the time of day and help so his son wouldn’t take the rap for his commanders. O’Reilly however declined and so 60 Minutes 2 got the scoop. Maybe 60 Minutes 2 should start looking out for us instead

Jackie Johnson leaving for California

Scratch another one off. Looks like Jackie Johnson is leaving 7 afterall. Word is she’s been wanted in California.
More details as I have them

G4TecTV is alive

Today’s official debut of the new G4TechTV channel, which is a merger of G4 and TechTv (duh), comes to live officially. The channels merged after Comcast bought TechTV and finalized the deal May 10th. Unfortunately the new suits decided to drop “Call for Help” but “The Screen Savers”.
Sadly “Wired for Sex” was yanked off the air too, I’ll have to pay for HBO now… or something.

Mini “60 Minutes” coming up

Localized versions of CBS’s 60 Minutes news magazine might coming to a CBS station near you very soon.

‘60 MINUTES’ IN A HURRY

Sweeps results

It’s pretty much all the same as before.
WSVN is on top from 5am to 9am, and at 5pm, 5:30pm. Oddly 7 displaced 10 from the 6pm as most watched for that time. 7News was also #1 during the 10pm hour. NBC6 sits on top fo the Monday-Friday 11pm show, and if weekends are included WFOR is on top. By the way they’re still fighting over who’s #1 at that time. Overall WFOR came first, followed by WSVN, WTVJ was third and sadly WPLG was dead last. ABC hasn’t helped them much at all.

In the Palm Beach market WPTV was the clear leader as it has been for so many years and if that’s not enough their ratings in all time slots are bigger than those of their competitors combined. How’s that for kicking some serious news ass. The 10pm newscast from WFLX-Fox29 beat WPBF’s 11pm show

Timeless TV …. coming near you in 2015

By 2015 there won’t be any TV schedules, instead everything you watch will be downloaded on your souped up 1 terabyte of storage TiVo. Maybe.
At least that’s what Mississippi Sunday Herald predicts.

Of course if that’s not enough, you can wait for holographic TV, now under development

TV in 2015 will be timeless

New digs more space for CNN New York ops

CNN has officially moved to the Time Warner center.
To sum it up these are what the new digs give them:
Completely digital built from the ground up with broacasting in mind studios
5 floors and 200,000 sq ft of space
6,000 miles of cable giving them double the capacity for incoming video.
Server-based video editing either throughout the offices or from Atlanta
High-definition ready (but not broadcasting yet in Hi-Def)
Has 4 backup generators in case of power failiure
Electric bill annually equals to that of 3,700 family homes

The new studios fill feature a behind the scenes tour much like the one in Atlanta except this one will be focusing more on what it’s like to be a journalist and CNN’s newsgathering.

American morning will continue to be aired from 6th Avenue in New York City and the headquarters are staying in Atlanta

WTVJ has just installed a new news director by the name of Yvette Miley.
Said to be what the station needs to have itself revived from the slumps.

CNN with new digs

CNN has started to move its New York studios to the new Time Warner building.
I think NewsNight is the first to broadcast from there, but I may be wrong. Larry King is supposed to be broadcasting from there too, though there will be no set changes for him.
The headquarters will still be in Atlanta, just the NYC operations are moving to a new building.

The new TechTV

Comcast has confirmed the merger of TechTV and G4 is completed.
The new “G4TechTv” channel officially debuts May 28th.

WSVN is a talent pool

Sure looks that way with the latest hire-aways to other stations.
Can’t help but think there must be more to it than just people leaving because they are. But then again Miami and Boston’s 7 aren’t known for being too eager to keep their talent around.

Meanwhile Brian Andrews will start November 1st with Beatriz Canals following December 1st
