Video of WPLG First Newscast from New Studios

WPLG Local10 New OpenThanks to Frank for Youtubing this. An open from today’s debut of WPLG’s new studios.

They’ve kept the same music, the open is refreshed but overall the look remains the same. The time/temp bug is now animated, an animated cube. Not too bad but somewhat distracting.

WPLG Fires Photog for Posting Raw Video Online

A WPLG photog was fired recently after station bosses found out he posted raw news video he shot online.

This is apparently a big no no. Post-Newsweek emailed all staff reminding them of the company’s policy against disseminating raw video and warned everyone things will happen if they catch anyone else doing it.

The WPLG photojournalist posted raw footage from a Broward Sheriff’s office shooting.

WSFL’s morning show South Florida Live has been delayed, again. They were supposed to debut at the end of January at first but then the date got pushed back twice to March. Now we’re getting a word there is yet another delay.

Do not know why but now they should be going live sometime in April. No hard date set however.

Battlestar Galactica Finale. Did You Watch? Thoughts?

The underwhelming episode, Daybreak Part 1, last week left me somewhat unsatisfied, but Part 2 was just awesome.

I just finished the final episode of Battlestar Galactica and wow! With very few exceptions, I thought Galactica’s last voyage was just spectacular. It was well rounded, it had everything that made the series great, a lot of action, drama, but more amped up. They kept the pace going without too much fussing about and drawn out pauses.

Cleenex should be thanking Ronald D Moore, for those last 30 minutes of the show. What a tear jerker those were.

I think the ending was fitting for a show intertwined with so much philosophy, mythology, spirituality and current events.

So, did you watch? What did you think?
How much did it make you cry?
A lot or a little?
Inquiring minds want to know so feel free to chime in the comments

Old WPLG Building to Become Charter School

WPLG’s old building on Biscayne Boulevard will soo make way for The Miami Arts Charter School to soon occupy the halls and rooms where Ann Bishop once walked.

Post-Newsweek sold the building last year, then leased it back until their new building was ready.

A WPLG news report explained what changes will take place. The newsroom will be turned into two rehearsal hall, the edit bays into practice rooms and the prop room will be a cafeteria. The main newsroom, where the set now is, will be turned into a orchestra performance hall.

“I think the energy of this place being a studio for so many years is really going to remain here as a part of the history of the building. We are certain the kids will benefit from it,” De La Rosa said.

WPLG has occupied 3900 Biscayne Bay for 42 years
