Tomorrow Last Day for Brian Andrews at WFOR

Brian Andrews signs off from WFOR tomorrow, Wednesday the 28th.
In the morning he’ll be on The Footy Show on WIOD 610 - sometime between 09 and 12pm. He leaves for Caracas on Friday.

And since he’s freelancing chances are high we’ll be seeing him on stations other than WFOR as well.

You can keep an eye on his big move at his new blog and site

Possibly Replacing Tiffany Tucker and Joel Brown

I have a tip that the following two people could be replacing Tiffany Tucker and Joel Brown.

Rene Marsh right now the investigative reporter at WRBG CBS6 Albany, NY - her bio at CBS6 and personal website

Tom Haynes To WAGA?

Last week a few people emailed saying some rumor sprung up about Tom Haynes leaving WSVN for WAGA in Atlanta. I still can’t tell 100% if it’s true but at this point it leans more and more to a yes. He joined WSVN in 2002 from WDIV in Detroit.

Update: Confirmed. He’s leaving WSVN, going to WAGA, anchor of the 11pm newscast. Last day is this Friday 11/23/2007!

Who will take his place?

Charles Billi
Reed Cowan

or

Beatriz Canals!

Jeff Weinsier Arrest: All Charges Dropped

Assistant State Attorney Maggie Gerson who’s in charge of Jeff Weinsier’s case has decided all charges should be dropped. She concluded that the sidewalk was not school grounds (he was arrested on the road actually) and that the officer’s commands were not legal because there were other people on that sidewalk that weren’t told they must go across the street.

Since Weinsier was on a public sidewalk he couldn’t have been trespassing thus the charges of trespassing have to dropped and “anything that was found on the defendant after he was arrested will be suppressed as a matter of law” therefore the gun charges also have to be dropped.

The charge of disrupting school function also did not apply because the students had already been dismissed when the arrest took place.

Gerson relied on WPLG’s footage from the incident.

Conan Stalker Shows up at WHDH

Rev. David Ajemian, the priest accused of stalking Conan O’Brien, showed up at WSVN sister station in Boston WHDH this Saturday demanding to speak to an employee he had been sending emails to.

According to a WHDH report Ajemian became very aggressive and another man who accompanied him had to push him out of the 7News lobby.

Ajemian was arrested last week at the NBC studios where the Conan
O’Brien show is taped. His father posted the $2500 bail and took him home. Rev. Ajemian went missing around noon on Saturday, then showing up with another male at the WHDH studios in Boston
around 4pm that afternoon. By 7pm he self-admitted to a hospital for observation.

MSNBC Redesign is Live

And looking pretty good.

On another note CBS4.com received a minor refresh last week or so, as did most other CBS-owned O&O sites.

Christine Cruz Anchor and Actor

If you didn’t know ‘Today in Florida’ anchor Christine Cruz can sing, and now we know she can act too. Cruz is part of an Off-Broadway musical called The Little Shop of Horrors that runs through Nov 10 at Main Street Theater.

12:43pm - All stations must be shairng video - 6 has the shot from Skyforce hard to tell any more actually I think they all must be just picking up whoever has the best video

WFOR Morning Crew In A Wreck

According to a tipster WFOR reporter Rachel Aram and photog Brian Shannahan were in a wreck yesterday morning.

Both were in a Ford Explorer news truck that got side swiped by a car on 700 E Sunrise Blvd in Ft. Lauderdale. The news truck then crashed into a cement pole.

Rachel Aram had to be cut out of the car. Both were taken to Broward General - Brian Shannahan had minor injuries, Rachel Aram suffered injuries to her leg or foot.

The good news is that even though she is pregnant the baby is safe!

MSNBC.com Redesign Preview

The MSNBC.com web team is offering everyone a preview of the upcoming redesign. Unlike before when the changes were more subtle and cosmetic, this time MSNBC’s .com will be radically changed. Some of the new features include emphasis on multimedia - photo and video - different layouts for the top story section. Flexible section modules where users can select how many stories they want per section or none at all.

And for those of us not using Internet Explorer the new MSNBC.com will be more welcoming to alternative browsers such as Safari and Firefox.

Overall it looks much much better than the site now, and different than what’s already out there in terms of news sites. And miles apart from the local news hodge podge of organized clutter.
Local stations can learn a thing or two from these guys.

Brian Andrews Ditches WFOR

A few people emailed saying word on the street among reporters the past several days was that Brian Andrews was fired or left WFOR.

Joan Fleischman’s column from yesterday’s Miami Herald confirms it. Brian Andrews has ditched WFOR two months after signing another 3-year contract with them. He’s selling everything and moving to Bogota, Columbia!

Crazy boy. He’ll take Spanish lessons and freelance before looking for a more serious job. His last day at WFOR is November 28.

WESH in HD

Reader Wayne was kind enough to take a few shots of his swanky Sony TV showing WESH’s debut in HD. To celebrate, the station aired their 11pm newscast entirely commercial free. And yes there are a couple shots of Martha Sugalski in there for all of you gawkers out there, of course.

And some of WFTV as well.
