TODAY Show Gets New Graphics Package and New Program Campaign

This Tuesday, NBC’s 4-hour long morning show, TODAY, recently upgraded to a brand spankin’ new graphics package. ‘NBC Artwork’ kept quiet (and busy) developing the new and fresh. There was no leak or speculation of a new look (from what we can  find).

In addition to the new look, TODAY has also started a new campaign, titled “Your Day is TODAY.” They released the new promo to help kick off the campaign. The apparent mission of this campaign is to celebrate the relationship between the TODAY show, and the TODAY show viewer, according to Bill Hartnet, who is the Senior Vice President of NBC Agency: East Coast. Get it? We’re all one big happy family.

WFOR’s Cool New Radar

WFOR's New Doppler 4D

WFOR CBS4 just launched a new cool weather radar this Thursday! They call it Doppler 4D, and it’s like nothing else in the South Florida TV news market. According to Craig Setzer’s Inside Weather Scoop Blog:

“A typical radar view is two dimensional.  It is also typically the lowest “slice” out of a thunderstorm and indicates the intensity of rain (or possibly hail) falling out of the storm.  If you loop the image you add the dimension of time and how the storm is changing over time.  This, in some respects is three dimensions.  We can also look at a radar image in the form of a “range height indicator” or RHI.  Then you not only see a horizontal slice of the storm, but a vertical slice as well.”

“[…] So simple intensity of the storm is important and that’s what most radars show, but Doppler 4D shows the entire depth of the storm, revealing details we rarely see.  Potential hail, extreme winds, even tornadoes show up when viewed in this much detail.”

With hurricane season already a month old, and a tropical weather system inevitable, this may be an edge WFOR needs. It seems to be common knowledge that WTVJ doesn’t have a chance in hell of gaining any viewers this hurricane season with their (small) all-star weather team – but WFOR has a chance. Video of WPLG First Newscast from New Studios

WPLG Local10 New OpenThanks to Frank for Youtubing this. An open from today’s debut of WPLG’s new studios.

They’ve kept the same music, the open is refreshed but overall the look remains the same. The time/temp bug is now animated, an animated cube. Not too bad but somewhat distracting.

New WTVJ On-Air Logo?

wtvj_logovia the NBCMiami site – Is that the new on-air logo? They’re using it on parts of NBCMiami.com. Something tells me that the on-air version is going to look a tad different.  Thoughts?

/thanks to our tipsters for sending it in/

WTVJ’s New Graphics – This Week

Tipsters have alerted me that this Tuesday or Wednesday, NBC6 will see their new graphics and music go live. From what I’ve been told,  they’re going to be flashy with palm trees, most likely like KNBC’s graphics. See below after the jump. -Will NBC6 see a new logo? Updates below!-
