Live Shot-Interrupting Asshole Sues WSVN?

Photo Via: "Lyrikill" Myspace

If you watch South Florida local news on a regular basis, you’ve no doubt seen the live shot-interrupting asshole who goes by the name of “Lyrikill.” Well, according to a NewsBlues.com tipster, WSVN is allegedly being sued by the music legend for alleged ”mental distress;” after he claims he was chased by a baseball bat-wielding live truck operator, after screwing up and interrupting a report by Dianne Fernandez. How much is he asking for his severe “mental distress?” A modest 35 thousand dollars. Funny; I always thought you needed brain cells in order to claim “mental distress.”

Check out his MySpace page for multiple videos of him nearly getting his ass kicked by reporters, live-truck operators, and cameramen.

The music superstar… rapper… performer... Errrr, “Lyrikill,”  who prides himself on preforming at local South Florida middle schools, can be seen chasing down and interrupting live shots on your local South Florida station of choice.

Check out one of his forced and free advertisement after the jump.

Charles Perez Files Discrimination Complaint Against WPLG

WPLG’s Charles Perez has filed a discrimination complaint with the Miami-Dade Equal Opportunity board, Miami Herald is reporting

In the complaint Perez alleges that his demotion two weeks ago from main weekday co-anchor to a weekend anchor and weekday reporter, had little to do with what the station said was a money-saving decision. Instead, Perez claims, his demotion stemmed from the attention his sexual orientation has received in recent months due to the public break up with his former partner.

In a statement, WPLG categorically denies Perez’s claim he was discriminated for being gay or that his public break up had anything to do with their decision to move Perez to weekend anchor duties. Even pointing out the Sunday 11pm newscast is highly rated.

My Interview With Joel Connable

On April 27th, Joel Connable was dismissed from WTVJ with a sea of controversy and questions following soon behind him. After much persistence, I had the chance to speak with Mr. Connable and ask him some questions about what happened at WTVJ, and what he’s doing now.

The big news is a lawsuit has been filed against NBC. Gina Cadogan of Schnall and Cadogan is representing him in this case, currently filed in Florida state court. NBC claims Mr. Connable violated NBC policy by accepting a trip free of charge, in exchange for taping a story featuring the Ritz Carlton in St. Thomas. When we asked Connable about the allegations, he said this.

“I did not solicit favors from anybody… and I am truly hurt by the allegations” Connable said.

The lawsuit claims a producer at NBC6 suggested Connable and another NBC employee shoot a story for his travel segment, called “The Departure Lounge,” while they were on the trip. The lawsuit says Connable never agreed to shoot a story and they were all going on a personal trip and not taking any NBC equipment.

We have more details about now former WTVJ anchor Joel Connable’s departure from WTVJ.

Sources tell us that Connable was let go from WTVJ for allegedly violating company policy. The violation is a trip Connable was supposed to take with two other WTVJ employees to a hotel that initially could have ended up paid for by the hotel’s public relation’s director.

According to our sources Connable had paid for the trip, and an email was sent to the hotel’s public relations director explaining WTVJ employees are not allowed to accept free gifts, and that this information was presented by Joel Connable to WTVJ bosses. Also the trip in question was canceled and did not take place. However WTVJ management ultimately made a decision to let go of Connable.

As for the two other WTVJ employees involved, one was laid off and the other is still working at the station.

We have also learned that Joel Connable has retained an attorney and is allegedly taking legal action against WTVJ for breach of contract. Connable’s attorney, thought to be one of the best employment lawyers in Florida, was asked to respond to an inquiry from the Miami Herald for an article that came out yesterday quoting an anonymous source at WTVJ who told the paper Connable was fired for violating company policy.

Some WTVJ insiders believe Continue reading ‘New Details on Joel Connable’s Departure from WTVJ’

Obama Fan Isn’t a fan of WTVJ

Peggy Joseph is her name, and if you haven’t heard about her… you must live under a rock. Now, admittedly, this is an old story, but for some reason we never covered it.

This is Peggy Joseph, immediately following the Obama rally at the Bank Atlantic Center. Peggy, caught up in the moment, said this:

“It was the most memorable time of my life. It was a touching moment because I never thought this day would ever happen. I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car. I won’t have to worry about paying my mortgage. You know, if I help him, he’s gonna help me.”

WSVN Still Fighting Developer

Channel 7’s parent company Sunbeam Television is still fighting the developer who bought the building next to its studios and plans to build condos on its place.

According to a story in the Miami Herald today Isle of Dreams LLC will be going back before the North Bay Village Commission for a third time after a meeting on Monday when the commission held any decisions until objecting parties can present their testimony.

On April 29th residents and Sunbeam TV will have an opportunity to appear before the commission and state their objections at which time or shortly thereafter commissioners will decide if the project will get the go ahead.

North Bay Village Mayor Joseph Geller maintains that the commission is to rule only in regard to building code and master plan, the same position he held when WSVN interviewed him for their story two months ago.

Meanwhile Isle of Dreams attorney Jeffrey Bercow says Sunbeam’s claims they’ll go out of business if the condos were to be built is a “complete fabrication”.

He says the plans for the condo building provide Sunbeam with access to their property and that the builder will make available 70 parking spaces reserved exclusively for WSVN.

Sunbeam TV to File Lawsuit Against Condo Developer; North Bay Village

WSVN’s parent company Sunbeam Television is in a fight to keep from being forced to move out of the current studios in North Bay Village!

They ran a 5-minute story twice during the news today regarding the developer who bought the adjacent WIOD property and their plans to erect two 21-story condo buildings eliminating all of WSVN’s parking spaces along with the main driveway, which is on the developer’s side, effectively forcing Channel 7 to move out or close up shop.

In 2005 a circuit court and an appelate court sided with Sunbeam Television enforcing a contract they signed with WIOD in 1962 which forbids either of the two parties from making property modifications without prior approval from the other side.

Despite that court decision however the developer is proceeding with the plans, North Bay Village zoning board has approved those plans and the city is about to vote with Mayor Geller stating on camera they are not going to let the court opinion influence their decision.

This week Sunbeam went back to the courts and asked them to enforce their previous court order and Ed Ansin says they’ll have no choice but to file lawsuit against the city itself if it makes decisionsin before the legal issues have been resolved.

He also said he wants to be reasonable and to work out a compromise with the developers so they could build some condos on some of the property.
