Thief Steals Pricey WTVJ Camera

A WTVJ photog parked the company-owned Ford Explorer at the station’s main entrance at 4:30pm on November 25 only to return an hour later and find the front passenger-side window broken and the $25,000 Panasonic DVCPro camera, hidden in the trunk, gone. Someone knew what they were doing!

  • Well, that’s something you don’t hear about every day…

  • Some stations use heavy duty cables that lock through the camera’s top hand hold and are attached to the car to prevent this. And this isn’t that rare — there is a huge market for stolen TV News equipment in South America.

    I wonder if this happened while the news director and assistant news director were out seeing a movie. Insider reports are the two went to see a movie in the middle of the work day together. I guess that is more fun than watching WTVJ’s rating drop.
