Ask SFLTV…

We’re going to try something… new. There seems to be a steady stream of readers who are always asking us site, or news related  questions via the Meebo chat box, or the e-mail form. So now we invite those people to e-mail us at AskSFLTV@gmail.com and we’ll (to our best ability) post an answer in a monthly open thread.

  • Just e-mail us at AskSFLTV@gmail.com
  • Don’t worry – We won’t be posting your e-mail address, or full name.
  • You can remain anonymous, though we prefer if you include your first name.

So send in any questions you may have, and we’ll try to answer them. Click here to e-mail.

By the way, we’re in talks of maybe bringing the daily… or weekly links back.

DTV Transition Delay Axed. Maybe

The House of Representatives failed to pass a bill delaying the DTV transition until June 12, instead of the scheduled February 17.

The House failed to get 2/3 majority vote in favor of the delay as per special rules they adopted for the vote.

DTV Granny is still confused as ever

NBCMiami Debut Pushed Back

Just a quick note on the progress of NBCMiami. One of my WTVJ insiders let me know that the original launch date of NBCMiami.com was pushed back for sometime in February, to sometime in March. I’ll let you know more as soon as i get more info.

Another Seen at WTVJ..

An anchor from WNYW in New York was interviewing at NBC6 yesterday. His name is Reid Lamberty. He currently works at Fox in New York but allegedly wants to move down here.

A Fly On The…. Anchor?

flyontheanchor

Via NBC6:

“During Sunday’s 6 p.m. newscast, Amara Sohn received a personal greeting on-air from an oversized fly.

The insect decided to land right on the tip of Amara’s nose while she was reading the news.

Amara said she didn’t realize how big the fly was until she saw the video. She said she didn’t swat it away because she was trying to keep her composure.”

Possibly the Worst Interview on TV…

I’m going to be a TV critic for a moment. Here’s a preview of the type of interviews and segments that are going to appear on the new WSFL show “SouthFlorida.com Live!” (AKA, the morning showoff).

This isn’t Nickelodeon, and Dave Aizer (as well as the 4th grade TV production class that produces the new show) needs to learn that.. Otherwise, i’ll give the show two weeks to make it with content like that.  That was… Possibly the worst interview on TV…

The Obamas do What?

A pundit on TV has a funny Freudian slip while trying to describe the Obamas and their affection for one another

Oh really?

GE Blames NBC O&O Revenue Drop on Weak NBCU Profits

A story on All Things D’s MediaMemo points to General Electric’s 4th quarter earnings report in which things look gray for NBC’s local stations.

GE says NBC Universal profits fell 6% in the 4th quarter “as strong cable earnings were offset by declines in the local stations.”

PaidContent notes that in the earnings call GE’s chief financial officer said local stations revenues were down 25% and operating profit was down 55%

Compare that with NBC’s cable channels which had 11% revenue growth and 22% increase in operating profit.

Of course cable and satellite companies (DirecTV, Dish, Comcast etc.) pay a set fee, per subscriber, for the rights to carry those channels. In turn passing most or all of the costs to subscribers as part of tiered package pricing and local ad breaks.

WTVJ Dumps Miami Studio

The WTVJ Miami studio at the American Airlines Arena is being shut down and all the people who work there, including Hank Tester, Nick Bogert and the photogs are moving up to Miramar. They are building a new desk area for them in the middle of the newsroom. It’s a long time coming. It seems as if all WTVJ used the Miami studio for was to just to show they have commitment to Miami. If i remember correctly, (and correct me if I’m wrong) all NBC6 used that Miami studio for was some.. Friday afternoon “Today Show” style show? They asked viewers to “come-on-down” and meet the news team, and maybe even get on TV. I always remember it was a disappointing crowd. Anyone remember what I’m talking about?
