WSFL Morning Show Renamed to… The Morning Show

wsfl.the.morning.show.openSouthFlorida.com/Live is no more. Well, at least in name only. As of yesterday morning WSFL’s morning show is now called, aptly, ‘The Morning Show’!

Gone is the ’soundtrack’ that one of Tribune’s bosses thought was so very South Florida. It’s been replaced with a more newsier sounding music track along with a different open without a voice over. The lower thirds graphics are now reddish and lot more conventional looking versus the previous ’stacked shelves’ look.

Added also is a news desk area where I’m assuming Tisha Lewis, former WTVJ reporter, will be delivering the top news from now. Or at least she was on Wednesday. Very ‘Today’-like.Other than that the rest of the show seemed to be as before with in-studio guests, cooking segments etc.

WFOR and CBS 60 Minutes Team For Big Medicare Investigation

iteam_wildcard_2009The WFOR CBS4 I-Team has another whopper in the can and this one is went national last Sunday!

WFOR CBS4 teamed up with CBS’s ‘60 Minutes’ to conduct a 4 month long joint investigation into Medicare fraud taking place in South Florida.

During the course of the investigation WFOR’s iTeam ended up uncovering billions of dollars siphoned out of Medicare by way of fraudulent clinics located in the Miami area.

The iTeam found out South Florida is pretty much the testing grounds for Medicare fraud methods that end up being used elsewhere in the country. They managed to sneak py cameras into 7 clinics alleged to be billing Medicare for services they aren’t providing and recorded staff offering to pay people who have valid Medicare numbers to complete fake paperwork for treatments and equipment they don’t need.

‘60 Minutes’ aired their investigation this past Sunday. This Sunday, November 1st WFOR will air a 30 minute special at 6:30pm for a more in-depth look into Medicare fraud.

WPEC appears to be doing some changes to their anchor lineup

Anchor Emily Panteledes has been moved from ‘CBS 12 News at 7pm’ and will now be anchoring ‘CBS 12 Daybreak’ on weekdays alongside Ric Blackwell. She is replacing Tara Cardoso.

Tara Cardoso has been re-assigned to weekend evenings No info on waht Tara Cardoso’s status is or what position they’ve assigned her to.

Juan Carlos Fanjul (yes, former WSVN reporter) will likely be anchoring ‘CBS 12 News at 7pm’ by himself.

NBC Takes On WHDH Launching NBCBoston.com Soon

NBC Local Media has a job listing posted for a city editor in Boston, MA indicating that the network maybe planning to launch NBCBoston.com and compete against their affiliate, and WSVN sister station, WHDH 7News on the web.

An interesting development considering how much NBC cried contracts and affiliate relationships when WHDH decided to have news on instead of Jay Leno at 10pm.

WHDH general manager Chirs Wayland told Nieman Journalism Lab they are not involved with the development of NBCBoston.com and won’t be providing content for the site. WHDH also have no plans of shutting down WHDH.com

Locally, Palm Beach NBC affiliate WPTV is owned by Scripps, which has a cluster of stations in several locations throughout the United States. They develop and maintain online presence on their own. It would be interesting to watch what happens considering WPTV is very strong NBC affiliate.  Things may or may not change when WPTV’s contract with NBC comes up for re-negotiation and which affiliate relationship tier Scripps chooses.

Isn’t it rather curious that NBC may go against an affiliate starting with Boston of all places!?
