Former Local 10 reporter Gwen Belton left WPLG in 2005 after her contract expired. Soon after, she joined CBS News, and now it is going local again. The CBS4 news director sent out a memo saying she was hired. No word of when she starts, or what her position will be. Gwen will be a reporter and fill in anchor, and is said to start sometime in September. Welcome back to South Florida, Gwen.
You can still read her WPLG profile, here.
/Thanks, tipsters!/

The tipsters were correct. WPBF just made a formal announcement today that J.P. Hervis will be joining WPBF and Kristin Hoke on a newly expanded weekday mornings newscast from 5 to 7am.
His first day at WPBF is mid-March.
WPBF.com - WPBF News 25 Names New Morning Co-Anchor
A reader alerted me to this a while ago.
WPBF will launch a three-hour local news schedule on Saturdays and Sundays starting March 8th. From 5 to 7am and from 8 to 9am with Saturday edition of Good Morning America from 7 to 8am.

Bob Kaple, reporter since 2005 at KCCI (also Hearts-Argyle station) in Des Moines, Iowa will partnered with a soon to be named co-anchor and Meteorologist Eric Burris.
“People depend on television news earlier and earlier and that includes weekend mornings,†said Victoria Regan, WPBF-TV vice president and general manager. “WPBF’s expansion addresses the audience growth and demand for more news, weather and traffic in the time period. WPBF News 25 has taken a leadership role in providing expanded coverage on weekends. Now, only WPBF will deliver morning news seven days a week beginning at 5 a.m.â€Â

JP Hervis is moving north to Palm Beach as WPBF’s new morning (weekends?) anchor. His last day at 7 is mid February.
Tipsters say it was his decision to move because he wanted an anchor job but didn’t have the opportunity at WSVN. He joined WSVN in March 15th 2005.

New WPTV GM
Steve Wasserman is the new General Manager of WPTV. He takes over for Brian Lawlor who left the station for VP of sales position for Scripps Television Station Group.
Most recently Wasserman was the vice president and general manager of WDIV Local 4 in Detroit an NBC affiliate and sister station to WPLG.
Wasserman is an interesting choice for a WPTV GM by Scripps when you realize he also ran KPRC, without a doubt Houston’s take on WSVN, for 11 years! KPRC is also a Post-Newsweek owned station like WDIV and WPLG.
