SFLTV.com Welcomes James

Please join me in welcoming the newest member to the SFLTV.com team, content writer James. James has been a loyal reader of the blog, and has great inside connections to the industry. Join me in giving him a warm welcome, and making his experience here as enjoyable as possible.

Welcome James!!

A note about the lack of posting…

Hi there from far, far, away!

A lot of our readers have been getting rather annoyed with us for the lack of posting. Our loyal tipsters and local news viewers are peeved because they feel their tips are being ignored…

They’re not.

I’m on a nice long vacation to a land far away from South Florida. However, please still keep sending your tips, comments, and e-mails saying “hello!” via these methods. I’m still in contact via Blackberry and will respond to your e-mails as soon as I can (usually in under 12 hours). SFLTV.com will resume the luxury of two bloggers by the middle of next week. I have lots of news for you; rumor control, two major faces in SoFlo set to leave, and going away parties galore!

I’ll see you in a few!

Alex

A note from the SFLTV.com staff…

Hi there.

Since we seem to be getting a few daily Meebo messages about this topic, I figured I should clear this little rumor up.

We haven’t been sued. In fact, we haven’t even been contacted by an attorney. We most certainly have not settled a lawsuit… and more importantly, no (and this is unfortunate for some), are not shutting down.

We hope this clears things up for some who seem to think that the above is a reality.

SoMiami, New NBCMiami Feature Lets You Share ‘Moments’

Last evening we received an email to preview a new NBCMiami.com feature being tested called SoMiami.

According to the email, SoMiami lets anyone post pictures and comments of  “… your local experiences and participate in rich conversations with other locals about what’s happening in and around your city”.

At first look it has a very twitter-ish vibe to it. You type in a box with a 550 character limit and hit post. The comments show up in a twitter (or blog)-like stream with the difference being that anyone can vote them up and down similar to Digg, ha!

Users can pick from three categories, or as they are called, ‘moments’ – check it, confess and what the?. Anyone reading the ‘moments’ can also comment on them similar to a blog post.

SoMiami is still being tested but hopefully the comments so far are not indicative of its future as they are quite inane. Continue reading ‘SoMiami, New NBCMiami Feature Lets You Share ‘Moments’’

Beta: SFLTV Wants YOU!

As many of you may have realized within the past few months, SFLTV is expanding. With a new record readership and hit count, SFLTV is bigger and better than ever before. We are focusing and actively working on new ways to provide fresh content, gossip, and exclusive insider information that only SFLTV can offer you; all of course, 100% free of charge. Over the past months, SFLTV has printed and broken more South Florida TV industry news than anyone else. This also includes all local newspapers and other blogs. SFLTV.com is currently number one in the area, and it is with that I am now thrilled to extend the offer to you to join and expand the ‘SFLTV Family.’ Because SFLTV.com is a ‘hobby’ for at least one of our bloggers, and compensation on most blogs isn’t sizable, fresh content can easily suffer. The SFLTV team recently brainstormed about how we can keep up with daily content, expand our readership, allow SFLTV to remain absolutely free of charge, and expand further to serve you to the fullest. With this, we have decided to expand even further by adding yet another content provider for SFLTV. We feel that with three bloggers on the site, we would have the edge in keeping up with daily content and expanding the type of stories we cover. SFLTV.com is now actively searching to expand the team in adding a content provider, which could very well be you.

Qualifications and Other Information: The current SFLTV.com team is a very friendly, easy to work with, and adaptable team. We’re people who are willing to teach, yet at the same time, are constantly learning. We’re looking for someone who has a general interest, passion, or inside connection to the South Florida local news media. We are also looking for any former news station employees. The great thing about blogging with SFLTV is there’s no minimum or maximum for posting. This will solely be a hobby for our new content writer, and therefore, no compensation will be paid. This is strictly for someone looking for something interesting and fun to do in their spare time. Therefore, you post on your own time, and can post as little or as much as you want. Of course, we’re looking for someone that wants to blog and will contribute. After all, there’s no sense in being on the team if you don’t want to blog. We’re even fine with the less technical savvy folks. Again, we’re willing to teach; and it’s easier than it looks.

Please see the FAQ’s after the jump, and look for details on the less than 5 minute application process. We all are looking forward to being able to serve our readers better, and the new and improved near future that is for SFLTV.com. Look for it soon, and we’ll keep you updated on the new contributor status.

A Year Here

Almost a year ago, I joined the SFLTV.com staff (meaning, joined one other person) on this blog as a hobby. 167 (and counting) posts later, I’m still loving this hobby known as blogging. It’s just that, a hobby. Many of you may or may not know that I blog free of charge, as a hobby and something interesting to do in my free time.

I cannot explain how much I’ve learned over the past year. “Admin” as you all know him, has taught me a ridiculous amount about blogging in general, and the technical aspects that come along with it… and for some of our slower readers, YES there are two bloggers on this site. I swear, I don’t understand 98% of what he says… what with the “MYSQL’s” and the “PHP’s.” I just agree and say “ahh, interesting.” Whatever. I just write.

I’ve learned that you can’t just publicly call a reporter a diva, and ranting isn’t always the best route to go. The things you learn.

Anywho, I think I’ll stay a tad longer. I feel like I’d miss the mean comments too much.

SFLTV Forums: When did the decline at WTVJ start?

Jump in, and bring your POV to the SFLTV.com Forums!

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that there has been a severe decline in quality at what was once was the envy to all TV stations around the country. I remember speaking to a long-time WTVJ tipster, who said that when they first joined the station, they had this excitement because she was joining ‘the famous WTVJ – the first in Miami!’ When did NBC6 become the laughingstock of the nation? When did WTVJ stop being “South Florida’s News Leader?” When did the famous WTVJ become a station NBC Universal is dying to drop?

How the hell did this happen?

A lot of people have different opinions of when this astounding decline began – what’s your take?

Talk about it here, and don’t forget to sign up while you’re there!
