Although we don’t know much at this time, someone just sent us a tip saying that WSVN anchor Charles Billi posted a status on his Facebook wall that he had been in a “bad” car accident.

We checked his Facebook status and he has posted the following:

“Sitting in the hospital after a bad car accident watching the UF game and crooked refs throw 2 bogus flags to ensure a Gator RD. Boy life isn’t fair.”

The good news is his injuries don’t appear to be too serious, obviously, or he wouldn’t be on Facebook. According to his Facebook updates, he suffered a few cracked ribs, clavicle stress fractures, sternum fissure, neck hyper extension.

Get well soon man!

WSVN Adds Newscasts on Weekends

7newsWSVN announced today they’re adding two thirty-minute newscasts on Saturday and Sunday.

Beginning September 26, 2009 WSVN will add a 30-minute newscast on Saturdays and Sundays at 11pm, going head to head with already established newscasts in that time slot from WFOR, WTVJ and WPLG. The station’s Sunday sports wrap up show ‘Sports Xtra’ will now start at 11:30pm.

The added ’7News at 11′ newscasts will be anchored by Reed Cowan and Robbin Simmons.

With this expansion, WSVN will now be producing a total of 57 hours a week of live newscasts and programming counting Deco Drive and Sports Xtra.

According to Broadcasting & Cable, BIA Financial estimates WSVN was first in terms of revenue for 2008 with$89.2 million, $19.6 million ahead of Post-Newsweek owned WPLG which came in second with $69.6 million in revenue for 2008.

Team 7News Storms Twitter

update 10:40pm pst: to clear something up, WSVN is keeping Facebook. Twitter will be used more for on-air talent to stay in touch with viewers directly

On Wednesday word came down from atop the ‘Sunbeam’ that the WSVN troops must join twitter, en mass. Everyone! As in everyone down to the newscast producers (unless they suddenly decided to join the fray)

Not sure what prompted the sudden orders but Wednesday and Thursday 7Newsies have been creating accounts and figuring out this twitter thing. @luannesorrell tweeted someone that

the station is doing a big push on twitter so we’re suppose to get everyone to follow us this site not facebook ne more

and answering another question she adds:

@blopez426 we are all getting new accounts as a way to correspond with our viewers

The main WSVN Twitter account now also relays tweets by 7Newsers.

The 7News Drama Llama Open

Oh it’s back. A brand new drama open for The Night Team in true 7News style.

A few years ago they used to do these teases for the late news a lot more often. Back then they’d have Craig and Laurie Jennings standing on the second floor where the big giant 7 logo used to be saying something like “It’s 10 o’clock and the night team is on” then the tease would roll. Made me wonder what it took to go over those rails.

And of course who can forget the promo with Craig and Laurie where they got spun around and poped on screen like they were beamed down from the starship Enterprise.

When I watch 7 and the stations here in Seattle the difference is shocking to say the least. Even the FOX station, KCPQ, is subdued and very conservative. They could easily put you to sleep. They are slower paced then even WTVJ. I can see why everyone who comes to Miami and sees 7 is so captivated or really hates them, they truly are one of a kind.

Video after the jump. The tease alone is 1 minute 30 seconds without the open! I thought they shortened the opens to keep it short?!

7News HD Now on Facebook; Wants You to be Their Friend

l29790827612_6248

Actually they have been on Facebook for a while now but I guess with the HD reveal it is now “official”.

Before the break during the 5pm newscast today Craig invited everyone to join the WSVN Facebook page. There the 7Newsies encourage viewers to sound off on the day’s story  or anything, and I am guessing those opinions might end up on 7News.

The rest of the page features links to WSVN blogs, two of their most recent promos, and content from WSVN.com.

The disclaimer at the bottom of the page is quite thorough. So only tell Channel 7 something if you really want to see yourself on TV ;)

… now if they would only turn the live feed quality up a notch…
