The first dog of the United States is not happy about getting kicked out of his house. Barney, caused minor bites to Jon Decker, a former WTVJ producer. “I don’t know what set him off,” says Decker. “Maybe it was the Republican debacle Tuesday night, the fact that soon he’ll be replaced as America’s first dog or that I happened to have bacon for breakfast.” Decker was seen by the white house “presidential physician” where he was given a two- to three-day supply of antibiotics, and told him to come back Friday for a tetanus booster.
With Demarco Morgan off to NYC, that leaves an open anchor spot at NBC6. The new line is:
(Weekdays)
6P.M.: Tony Segreto and Julia Yarbough (for now). Tony still needs to decide about retiring.
7P.M.: Joel Connable and Jackie Nespral. If Tony retires, Joel will fill his spot.
11P.M.: Jackie Nespral and Julia Yarbough. It’s a tad unusual to see two women at 11, eh?
(Weekends)
Well despite Ms. Tisha Lewis going around, boasting about how “she was taking over for Joel when he moves to weekdays”… She didn’t get the anchor seat. The new weekend lineup is:
Weekend Mornings: Sharon Lawson.
Weekend Evenings: Amara Sohn.
Tisha was visibly upset, and was even allegedly overheard complaining to fellow on-air talent about how “she deserved it over Amara and Sharon.” As for Amara Sohn, I like her. I like her look, her style. The only thing I would say is she needs to be more personable on-air. I’ve seen her fill in for Joel Connable a few times, and she’s fairly good. I think she’ll do a fine job. Who knows how all of this will work out in the ratings department. Will two women at 11 be a good thing, or turn some viewers off? Only time will tell.
NBC6 also has some new part-timers. Evan Bacon, a freelance reporter is working part time. Joining Evan is Claudia Decompo, a part-time freelance producer and reporter. It’ll be interesting to see if NBC6 hires one of them full time. After all, they’re going to need a new consumer reporter.
WTVJ anchor DeMarco Morgan was just hired at WNBC. What a small fish for such a big pool. Come December, DeMarco will work weekends anchoring the 6 & 11 P.M. news. A few weeks ago we reported that DeMarco Morgan and Tom Llamas were up in NY interviewing at WNBC. No word on if he was (or will be) hired as well. DeMarco denied that he was hired, even to fellow co-workers up to just a few days ago. This may be a smart move for both stations. With DeMarco gone, that leaves a spot open for the unused star at WTVJ - Joel Connable. According to rumors, Joel is supposed to be in a full time anchor spot by the end of this year. Now that would be a nice thing to see. Some real talent in the anchor seat. So now, it’s just a wait and see situation.
Update: According to management insiders at WTVJ, Joel Connable will be the new 7P.M. anchor, and possibly the new 6P.M. anchor.
That seems to be the trend at WTVJ. With the uncertainty of the economy, and the fate of WTVJ, lots of employees and even on air talent are looking to get out of NBC6. The list (that seems to add new names weekly) is as follows:
Is this a smart move? It’s still hard to say. Lets not forget, the sale still may not go through…
On the 5:00 p.m. KATV newscast Sunday, KATV President and General Manager Dale Nicholson paid tribute to Anne Pressly. May she rest in peace.
Thanks to The Futon Critic for this story:
” MSNBC will begin telecasting in 1080i High Definition in the spring of 2009. The announcement was made by Phil Griffin, President of MSNBC. This move comes as MSNBC marks the one-year anniversary of re-locating to NBC News world headquarters at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan. As Election Day approaches, MSNBC is more competitive than it has ever been before. In the third quarter of 2008, MSNBC was the fastest growing channel in all of cable. MSNBC is delivering its largest primetime audience ever and the largest audience in total day (6a-6a) since the start of the War Iraq (25-54, Oct. 08 to date).
“As viewers are making the transition to HD more and more every day, we’re looking forward to delivering what they want: a full high definition experience on MSNBC,” said Phil Griffin, President of MSNBC. “In addition to our live news programs, over 80% of our new documentaries will be presented in HD.”
Building on the NBC News HD infrastructure already in place, MSNBC launches 1080i High Definition utilizing two full HD capable control rooms, integrated HD graphics, and new HD commercial integration master control and distribution systems. Since October of 2007, MSNBC has been telecasting from two HD-ready studios. ”
Well.. About time!
Mike.. Who? Kelly Ripa on her live show somehow can’t say the name Schmidt, and drops the S-bomb on air.
Well, Schmidt Happens!
Anne Pressly, a news anchor for KATV (ABC 7 News) who anchored Channel 7’s Daybreak show, was assaulted in her home a few days ago and suffered serious wounds. A police spokesman initially said Pressly was “beaten and stabbed” and that her injuries were “life-threatening,” though later developments from an “inside source” hint that she was not stabbed, and that most injuries were caused by “blunt force trauma.”
“The initial police report said Pressly was unconscious when they arrived and that there were signs of broken bones, severe lacerations and possible internal injury. The officer who responded observed bleeding from her head. Further report indicates severe facial and head wounds. There’s speculation that she could have been asleep when attacked and unable to run or defend herself.”

Update: Fox News and KATV are reporting that Anne Pressly has died.
DeMarco Morgan and Tom Llamas are heading to WNBC? Allegedly confirmed by DeMarco and Tom as well as insiders over at WNBC. They have both been interviewing up in NY and apparently, WNBC is offering them both jobs. Their positions are still unknown. Neither Tom or DeMarco have any connections with New York. Both are outsiders, but represent the minorities that WNBC says they need right now. DeMarco is on vacation for three weeks while he goes up to New York for interviews and Tom has been there as well. There are still lots of unknowns with this all, and I’ll pass any information along as soon as i get it.
I thought I was a fan of local news.

This article appeared on FTVLive today. It is true according to people involved and NBC executives have confirmed it.
NBC 6 Sale hits a snag:
“It appears that the WTVJ (NBC O&O Miami) sale maybe in trouble.Insiders tell FTVLive that the Department of Justice has been in Miami and looked at the client lists for the two stations and there’s concern that Post Newsweek may have too much of the market and the deal could be in trouble. If so, this is a big issue for the NBC-Local Media Group. They needed the money from the WTVJ sale to cover budget misses. If the sale doesn’t go through, you could be looking at some more very deep cuts at the O&O’s”
Brian Andrews’ news in English is growing. As you may know, the RCN webcast from Colombia is a pre-recorded show posted on the RCN website. In a few months, I’m hearing they’ll be adding an additional webcast, and a 30 minute newscast on RCN’s new 24-hour international channel.
Keep up-to-date on all of this at Brian’s blog, facebook, or website. Good luck with the expansion!
First off, i know this is old. If you’re ever in Mobile, Alabama, please say hello to theor me! I really can’t get over the fact that they would air this. No matter how slow of a news day it is, this is just not news worthy. Perhaps this is why so many people now-a-days hate local news. Make sure to catch the “Amateur Sketch” at 0:45.
They call it NBCU: College Edition. College kids get to play NBC6 TV news anchor at WTVJ. Wannado City called, they’d like their attraction back. Just kidding. I really is a great oppertunity for these soon-to-be anchors and reporters. Most of them you can tell are new and really don’t have an idea of what to do, but others you can really see potential. Watch their 30 minute “fake” newscast here.
Jennifer Gray Speaks Out
She says that “only thirty minutes after forecasting the South Florida weather, I found myself sitting in a local emergency room, clinging for life.” Who would have thought that such a healthy looking young women could have been going through all this.
I do remember when she first started a few months back, she all of a sudden dropped of the radar for a few weeks. You can read her full story here.
