A clip from 1975 - WTVJ was the first station to broadcast a live report from the field. Bob Mayer had the honors reporting and Ralph Renick at the anchor desk
An 11pm open from 1990 when WTVJ was Channel 4 and somewhat dramatic
Vintage WTVJ from New Years eve 1988 when they still were Channel 4. And Gerri Helfman … w-o-w … ‘dancing queen’ and Ru Paul just shot through my mind when I saw that hairdo!
Here’s two videos of NBC6 set shots with their steadycam from a 6/20 newscast. One is looking towards the anchors and the other one is from the back

From the front - 1.33MB

I hope they are working, or planing to work, on a new set. This one is so ugly anymore. I can’t believe they are not using all the huge space and gagetry they have. I know not every viewer cares about it, but it would add some life to the otherwise brown drab surrondings that are in my opinion clashing with the blue on the screen. Not to mention those glass bricks emanating turqouizish blue/green whatever-it-is color should not have been there in the first place.
Brighter set with matching graphics would be nice. And as someone in the comments said - NEW LOGO! But of course considering that NBC6 is using NBC Network provided graphics and a lot of the promos get made in Texas, all of this is probably just a whisful thinking.
Unless Jose Suarez (WTVJ’s News Director) has any surprises.

6 has a new voice over guy, so here’s tonight’s 6pm open.
Much better with the voice-over IMO, livelier and sounds more authorative

Get Out While You Still Can…
That seems to be the trend at WTVJ. With the uncertainty of the economy, and the fate of WTVJ, lots of employees and even on air talent are looking to get out of NBC6. The list (that seems to add new names weekly) is as follows:
Carrie Hernandez - Executive Producer - Leaving after Election Day for CNN
Mike Zimmer- Chief Photographer - Gone
Is this a smart move? It’s still hard to say. Lets not forget, the sale still may not go through…
