First on SFLTV: WTVJ’s Paul Deanno Heading to Seattle

paul_deanno-for-web We are hearing that WTVJ’s chief meteorologist Paul Deanno will be heading to Seattle. He will be the morning meteorologist at KOMO, the ABC affiliate.

Interesting development since recently word got out that KOMO’s current morning meteorologist Jim Castillo may be leaving the station.

The move is actually a homecomming of sort since Deanno is from the area.

SFLTV Exclusive Update: I’ve obtained e-mail he sent out to the station. Read it below.

WFOR’s Mojo Jim Robinson Out

Several tipsters are telling us that Jim Robinson, WFOR’s first video journalist a.k.a. the mojo (mobile journalist) is out. He joined WFOR from WXMI in June 2006. We don’t know if there are any layoffs happening at WFOR but other CBS-owned stations have been further reducing staff recently. More as we get it

Jennifer Gray Goes Away

jennifergray-for-web

Jennifer Gray, NBC6’s weekend meteorologist is leaving WTVJ. A fan favorite from the start, she has decided to leave in a week.  She is allegedly going back to  her old station in Louisiana, KTBS. She has apparently decided to leave to be closer her family and boyfriend. Best of luck, Jen!

This now leaves a massive shortage at WTVJ. Who will take her place? Most are speculating Trina Robinson will fill in, which would most likely pull her off of the weekday 11AM show. This also will leave WTVJ with a shortage of meteorologists during a crucial time: hurricane season.

WTVJ Cutbacks Coming

NBC6 is rolling out more cutbacks and layoffs. Yesterday, NBC6’s “web reporter”  Ian Wood was let go, as was NBC6’s 11AM show producer Ted Goldenberg.  Both were let go due to the current economic crises and condition. In a meeting early Tuesday, NBC6’s news director Yvette Miley warned of more layoffs and cutbacks. Rumors have it that an on-air talent at 11AM may be the next to be let go. But it’s pure speculation. It is also speculated that NBC6 will loose a few managers in sales and in production. One sales manager was already let go, Carolyn Navarra Overall, very rough times at WTVJ.

Paul Deanno: One Month Left

paul_deanno-for-web

WTVJ’s chief meteorologist apparently has little over a month left in the Sunshine State. Two months ago, SFLTV was the first to report he was leaving, and heading to the Pacific Northwest. He wouldn’t (and still wont) say where, though.  Portland is a possibility, as is Seattle. He has family in Oregon and Washington.

While location of his move is still tightly sealed (working on fixing that), I was able to uncover a date. His last day will most be likely May 15th.  I’ve had one contradicting tip of a slightly later date, but most tips are saying the fifteenth will be his last day. This is just short of the hurricane season start day, June 1st.

From what I’m told, his replacement has not been chosen yet. Ryan Phillips and John Gerard both tested for the spot last month. But, Yvette Miley, the NBC6 news director is said to want someone young, fresh, and hip… possibly Hispanic or African American. This “new” chief meteorologist may even be doing an on-air test of his own in the coming weeks, though I’m still checking on that.

WTVJ’s Ian Wood Gone

NBC6 Reporter Ian Wood is no longer working at WTVJ. Still working on seeing why, but early reports are saying that he was let go. It’s unclear why at this time. Check back soon…

Patricia Andreu Packs Up

Rather sad to say it, but NBC6 reporter Patricia Andreu (best known for her “Going Green” reports) has resigned from WTVJ. About two weeks ago,  she put in her two week notice, and was in the WTVJ newsroom the past few days packing up her stuff. She allegedly plans to become a full time mom. She will be missed by many of her friends at WTVJ.

WPLG Fires Photog for Posting Raw Video Online

A WPLG photog was fired recently after station bosses found out he posted raw news video he shot online.

This is apparently a big no no. Post-Newsweek emailed all staff reminding them of the company’s policy against disseminating raw video and warned everyone things will happen if they catch anyone else doing it.

The WPLG photojournalist posted raw footage from a Broward Sheriff’s office shooting.

Layoffs Hit Univision

Even Spanish stations are not immune to the economy. That and the 11 billion dollar debt the company has!

Univision was hit by layoffs last week. Approximately 300 employees have been pink slipped which represents a little over 7% of Univision’s 4000 employees.

Mark Joyella Leaves WPLG

mark-joyella.jpg Yesterday Mark Joyella twittered it was his last day reporting at WPLG. His fiancee is in NYC so he decided to quit 10 and stay close to her. And they’re getting married in two weeks! (congrats!)

Mark returned to WPLG in December 07 after 4 years in New York City working at WNYW. Before that he reported for WPLG from 1998 until 2003.
